Job Vacancy: Musicologist – RESOUND Project.

RESOUND is an ERC-funded project jointly conducted by the Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales (ICCMU), the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). The project is led by Prof. Dr. Carmen Julia Gutiérrez. RESOUND‘s main objective is to give voice to the Hispanic chant. To achieve this goal, we will employ tools from bioinformatics, genetics, computational analysis, aural architecture, virtual sound and image restoration, along with tools from the humanities, including musical interpretation.

We are seeking a dedicated Musicologist (Master’s degree, MECES level 3) with knowledge of medieval music and Hispanic chant.

What we offer

  • Permanent contract associated with the duration of the project (Contrato indefinido de actividades científico-técnicas).
  • Weekly hours: 20
  • Schedule: Flexible day shift (between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM), to be negotiated
  • Work Format: Hybrid (both in-person and remote work)
  • Remuneration: 9,282.30 € gross per year. This corresponds to 773.52 € gross per month (in 12 installments, with pro-rated extra payments). Contract start date: November 1, 2024
  • Start Date: March 1, 2026

The workplace is located at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, C. de Manuel Bartolomé Cossío, 0, 28001 Madrid. The selected candidate will be employed by ICCMU and will work in a hybrid format, both in person and remotely.

Key responsibilities

  • Compile the necessary sources, materials, and documents required for the Project and accomplish the online digitalization of materials.
  • Extract and analyze data from the materials, including working with genomic tools where applicable.

Requirements & merits

  • 300 ECTS in Musicology (MECES level 3 / Master’s degree).
  • Excellent command of Spanish, Latin, and English.
  • Deep knowledge of the Hispanic repertoire (academic work in this field, such as a BA or MA thesis, will be highly valued).
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, autonomy, attention to detail, and a systematic work method.
